Rwanda has called on Burundi to end its direct involvement in the ongoing conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
The statement was issued during talks between the countries and the Special Rapporteur on the human rights situation in Burundi.
In addition, Rwanda called on Burundi to make efforts to improve the respect for human rights in the country.
It also called on Burundi to implement concrete and credible reforms in the country, to work constructively with the ‘Upper Periodic Review’ (UPR)’ and international human rights treaty bodies, to work with relevant regional institutions, and to resume dialogue with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
It encouraged Burundi to take concrete steps to build trust among its citizens, expand freedom and participation in political life, and ensure that national institutions protect the rights and dignity of all Burundians.
