The Rwanda National Police in the City of Kigali announced on this Wednesday that they had arrested individuals selling alcoholic beverages that had been banned from the Rwandan market—specifically those commonly known as “ibyuma.”
Police stated that the operation followed tips from the public, leading them to a bar named Moon Life located in Muhima Sector, Nyabugogo Cell.
At the bar, police discovered various types of alcohol like bottles of Konyagi, of K-Vant, of Bazoka, of Kiwingu, of Gilbey’s, of Bond Seven, of Indiko Gin.
The Police spokesperson for the City of Kigali, CIP Wellars Gahonzire, told the media that a 27-year-old woman—alleged to be the manager of the bar—was arrested and is currently detained at the Muhima Police Station, while the seized alcohol was immediately destroyed by the police. The police also announced that, a few days later in Gasabo District—specifically in Rusororo Sector, Kabuga Cell, and Kabeza Village—they seized a stockpile belonging to a man found with 192 cartons of illicit alcohol. The haul included many cartons of Kiwingu, King Vodka, Radiant, GS Rum, and others.
